Mujahid for review
03 October 2015, Nirapad News: Death row convict Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid will file a review petition before the Supreme Court to review its verdict.
The Jamaat leader asked his lawyers to file a petition to review the Appellate Division verdict that upheld his death sentence for war crimes, in a meeting with a five-member lawyers’ panel at the Dhaka Central Jail Saturday morning.
Shishir Monir at jail gate told reporters that their client asked them to file a petition to review the Appellate Division verdict within the stipulated time.
The team members include Advocates Shishir Monir, Mashiul Alam, Nazrul Islam, Gazi Tamim and Motiur Rahman Akand.
They entered the jail around 10:20am and talked with their client nearly half an hour.
October 1, International Crimes Tribunal issued death warrants against the convicted war criminals BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.
Earlier on September 30, the Supreme Court (SC) released full appeal-verdicts upholding death penalty to Mujahid and Salauddin Quader for war crimes.
However, the convicts can seek review of the apex court verdict within the next 15 days.
On July 17 in 2013, ICT-2 found the Jamaat secretary general Mujahid guilty of five out of seven charges brought against him.
The tribunal sentenced him to death on three charges.
While On October 1 in 2013, ICT-1 found the 65-year-old Salauddin guilty on nine of 23 charges of crimes against humanity and genocide committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
