Mustafizur set to stay sidelined in Sunday’s match
12 March 2016, Nirapad News: Bangladesh cricket fans are likely to miss the premier pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the decider match against Oman as he is set to stay sidelined in the entire first round of the World Twenty20 due to injury.
The 20-year old did not play the Tigers’ first two matches of Group A as he is recovering from a side strain sustained during the Asia Cup. Bangladesh are set to face Oman at 8pm Bangladesh Standard Time in Dharamsala on Sunday.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and his men won their opener against Netherlands before their match against Ireland was washed out on Friday. The final group match will decide who will qualify for the Super 10 stage of the showcase event.
In a press briefing on Saturday, Bangladesh bowling coach Heath Streak said there was no good news regarding Mustafizur. “He is still not totally fit. The possibility of him playing in the third match is very less,” the Zimbabwean coach said.
Mashrafe earlier said it takes at least two to three weeks to recover from a side strain. “Mustafizur is on his way to recovery. It’s been 12 days, he’s getting better. This injury sees dramatic improvement suddenly over a couple of days,” the skipper said.
If it takes Mustafizur three weeks to get well, Bangladesh may not have his service even at the initial matches of Super 10s if they qualify. If Bangladesh make it to the Super 10s, they will take on Pakistan in their first match of Group 2 on Wednesday.
Mashrafe was extremely disappointed for not having Mustafizur in the team in a competition like the World T20. But he is unwilling to take any risk with the youngster. “He is one of our best bowlers. He has done very well at the start of his international career. But we can’t simply force him on to the field”.
