Myanmar’s rice export earning drops
08 November 2015, Nirapad News: Myanmar’s rice export fetched 185. 84 million U.S. dollars in the first half of the fiscal year 2015- 16, down 60 million US dollars from the same period of last year, according to the Myanmar Rice Federation Sunday.
From April 1 to Oct. 9 this year, 507,624 tonnes of rice were exported to 43 countries amid flood recovery, down 150,000 tons of rice correspondingly, the federation said.
Of the 43 countries, Myanmar mainly exported rice to China, accounting for 422,044 tonnes of rice with the revenues of 155.676 million US dollars during the same period.
Myanmar resumed its rice exports in mid-September after lifting a one-and-a-half month freeze aimed at maintaining price stability and local self-sufficiency in the wake of the widespread floods.
The country cannot meet its rice export target for this year, Dr Soe Tun, the vice president of the federation, was quoted as saying..
Myanmar exported 1.83 million tons of rice last year, according to official statistics.
