Nahid reminds pvt. unis of one year to meet conditions
28 January 2015, Nirapad News: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday said legal steps will be taken against private universities if they fail to comply with the rules and regulations.
He said this while addressing the 15th convocation of East West University in the city.
Referring to errant private universities in his address, Nahid said, “The government has set a one-year timeframe for those private universities that have failed to meet the relevant conditions – those which have been carrying out educational programmes on more than one campus.”
If the universities concerned fail to operate properly in line with the rules and regulations, legal steps will be taken against them after the timeframe besides stopping the admission of students there, he added.
The Education Minister presided over the convocation as a representative of President Abdul Hamid.
The programme was also attended by chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan and vice chancellor of East West University Dr Mohammed Farashuddin.
2,197 students were conferred the graduate and post-graduate certificates in the convocation.
