In the wake of mounting firebombings during the BNP-led blockade, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has launched a burn unit to take care of the increasing number of burn victims.

11 November 2015, Nirapad News: Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim today paid a visit to ailing Golam Akbar Chowdhury, husband of Awami League presidium member and Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

In the afternoon, the minister went to see him, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of BSMMU, a few days back. He is now under life support at the hospital.

Family sources said that Golam Akbar Chowdhury suffered head injury after falling on the floor of his city residence. Later, he was rushed to BSMMU.

He has been suffering from various old-age ailments including breathing complication. Earlier, he has undergone medical treatment in India.

Besides, he returned to his city residence from BSMMU after undergoing treatment there two months back as he was feeling well then. Meantime, BSMMU authorities have constituted a medical board for treatment of Golam Akbar Chowdhury.

During the visit of the Health Minister, vice-chancellor of BSMMU Prof Dr Quamrul Hasan Khan, pro-vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed and pro-vice-chancellor (Research and Development) Prof Dr Md Shahidullah Shikdar were present, among others.
