National data centre to boost information flow: Palak
12 May 2015, Nirapad News: In a bid to preserve information on a large scale as wells as to provide its security, the government is going to install the world’s fifth largest data centre to give a further boost to the initiative for building “Digital Bangladesh”, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said.
“As digitized activities have soared sharply after a declaration of building a digital Bangladesh, it is now urgent to set up a national data center to store information on a massive magnitude and for ensuring its security,” he told the commercial agreement signing ceremony in the conference room of ICT Division today.
The agreement was signed between Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and ZTE Corporation to set up the tier-4 certified data center at Kaliakoir High-Tech Park at a cost of 194 million US dollar, an official release said. Of the total, Bangladesh government will provide 40 million US dollar while Chinese Exim Bank will fund 154 million US dollar.
ICT Secretary Shayam Sundar Sikdar, BCC Executive Director SA Ashraful Islam, Director General of Directorate of ICT Md Zasim Uddin and Vice President of South Asia region of ZTE Corporation Sabina Shrestha, among others, were present on the occasion.
