National Wage and Productivity Commission in the offing

05 November 2015, Nirapad News: National Wage and Productivity Commission 2015 is likely to be formed soon as the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved a proposal in this regard in order to raise the salaries of the state-owned enterprises (SoEs) in line with the enhanced salary of the public servants.

The committee gave the go-ahead to a proposal of the Labour and Employment Ministry at a meeting held with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.

As per the proposal, the Labour and Employment Ministry will form the 13-member commission headed by a retired secretary or an acting secretary and its member secretary will be appointed from a joint secretary of the ministry.

Earlier, a similar commission was formed in 2005 and 2010 following the enhancement of the salaries of the government employees.

Official sources said about 78,000 workers and employees are now employed in the factories under different corporations like BCIC, BSEC, BJMC and Bangladesh Food and Sugar Mills Corporation.
