Navy detains 92 Myanmarese fishermen
09 December 2015, Nirapad News: Members of Bangladesh Navy arrested some 92 Myanmarese fishermen from the Bay of Bengal in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district for trespassing on Bangladeshi waters Tuesday.
During a patrol on Tuesday morning, the crew of the Navy’s patrol cargo ‘Dhaleshwari’ challenged 12 fishing trawlers near Saint Martin’s island in the Bay for suspicious movement, said a handout.
As the fishing trawlers failed to show any valid document, the Navy members seized the trawlers and detained 92 fishermen who were on board the trawlers.
Later, it was found out during the interrogation that the trawlers and the fishermen were from Myanmar.
The seized trawlers and the detained Myanmar nationals will be handed over to Teknaf Police Station on Wednesday morning.
