NBR asked business leaders to obtain e-TIN and submit tax return

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Bhaban, Dhaka

5 March 2015, Nirapad News: National Board of Revenue (NBR) asked the members of different chambers and trade associations to obtain e-TIN (electronic Tax Identification Number) and submit tax returns.

The revenue authorities in a press statement on Wednesday said many of the members of different chambers and trade bodies did not obtain e-TIN despite the fact that the income tax ordinance made it mandatory for them to have one. “In some cases, many of the members of various chambers and trade associations do not submit their income tax return”, the NBR said.

The statement followed the letter of the NBR Chairman Nojibur Rahman to 351 members of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and other trade associations. In the letter the NBR chief urged cooperation from the chambers and trade associations so their members get e-TIN and submit income returns accordingly.

According to NBR, the number e-TIN holders is still below 16 lakh while the ratio of taxpayers is very low against the size of population and compared to the neighbouring countries.
