Netherlands offers to construct sea ports in Ctg, Paira
29 September 2015, Nirapad News: The Netherlands has shown interest to construct sea ports in Chittagong and Paira.
Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte made the offer at a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the UN Headquarters on the sidelines of the UNGA on Monday.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Sheikh Hasina discussed various issues relating to mutual interests with her Netherlands counterpart.
Hasina told Rutte that Paira is a very wonderful location for setting up a deep sea port, and her government is interested to start construction work on the port as soon as possible.
She said the Netherlands can also cooperate with Bangladesh in the areas of river dredging, land reclamation, flood control, natural disaster control and river dredging.
They also discussed progress in preparing the ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100’ which is being formulated in cooperation of the government of the Netherlands.
Hasina informed Rutte that she would visit Netherlands very soon.
Rutte appreciated Bangladesh’s endeavour for socio-economic development and flood control.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shariar Alam, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Dipu Mini, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque and Bangladesh Ambassador to the Netherlands Sheikh Muhammad Belal were present.
