Newborn baby stolen from hospital
17 March 2015, Nirapad News: A newborn baby was stolen from of Netrokona Adhunik Sadar Hospital yesterday.
A woman wearing burqa, a full-body covering that includes a mesh over the face, took the baby from its mother at the hospital’s labor ward saying that she would take it to the family members who were staying outside around 10 am. “Since then, I can not find my dear son,” said Sathi Begum, mother of the baby.
“Before she took the baby from me, the woman talked to other patients at the ward for long time,” she said.
Sathi,22, wife of Ujjal Mia of Baragara village in Netrokona upazila, gave birth to the baby around 9 pm on Sunday last.
Family members of many patients at the hospital said the nurses asked all family members attending the patients to leave the ward in the morning.
It is questionable that an outsider can enter the ward and steal a baby defying strict watch of the nurses and other officials, they said.
Dr Niluthpal Talukdar, resident medical officer of the hospital, said they have written to Netrokona district administration and police informing them about the incident. Dr Bijon Kanti Sarkar, civil surgeon of Netrokona, said they have formed a three member committee led Dr Niluthpal to probe the incident.
