Newly-elected Joypurhat chairman succumbs to his injuries
AK Azad, 43, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital where he was undergoing treatment for last six days.
On June 4, Azad along with Pabitra Mandal came under attack by a gang of criminals when they were returning home riding on motorcycle. Miscreants stabbed and shot Azad but Pabitra Mandal managed to flee the scene. Hearing cry for help, a man named–Nayan–rushed to the spot to protect them but he was also injured by the miscreants.
They were rushed to Joypurhat Modern Hospital from where Azad was shifted to the hospital in the capital as his condition deteriorated.
Local sources said, Azad was elected chairman of Bhadsha union parishad in the upazila on March 31.
