N’ganj 7-murder, Police can conduct further investigation: HC

14 December 2015, Nirapad News: The High Court (HC) on Monday dissolved a petition for further investigation into a case filed over the sensational Narayanganj seven murders.

In its order, HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain said police can conduct further investigation into the case and asked session judge to add a provision of conspiracy (section 120B of the penal code).

Selina Islam Beauty, widow of slain Narayanganj City Corporation councilor Nazrul Islam, filed the petition seeking further investigation of the case last month.

Senior lawyer Abdul Baset Mazumdar moved for the petition while deputy attorney general Sheikh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir stood for the state.

Mantu Ghosh, another lawyer of the petitioner, told reporters that there was a conspiracy. So, the HC asked session judge to add a provision of conspiracy (section 120B of the penal code) for fair trial of the case.

She filed the petition as a Narayanganj court rejected her naraji petition to the chargesheet, which police submitted in April, nearly one year after the murders.

On December 01, Justice Enayetur Rahim, in his observation said the chargesheet filed in the case had flaws. But he stressed that the case must not be allowed to delay, in the name of further investigation.

On April 27 in 2014, seven men, including Narayanganj city councilor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were abducted. Their bodies were found floating in river Shitalakhyya some days later.

Relatives of Nazrul Islam and Chandan Sarkar filed two separate cases over the incident.

Police arrested 32 people including 17 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members as accused of the case.
