‘No compensation yet from KSA’ for crane crash, Mina stampede

23 November 2015, Nirapad News: Saudi authorities are yet to take any initiative to provide compensation to the families of those hajj pilgrims who died and those got injured in a crane crash and Mina stampede during the last hajj, says Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matiur Rahman.

“… 144 Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims were killed in the Mina incident, while another in the crane crash this year. Though the Saudi authorities announced to provide compensation for dead or injured hajj pilgrims, they haven’t taken any initiative yet in this regard,” he told Parliament on Monday.

The minister was replying to a starred question from Jatiya Party MP Kazi Firoz Rashid (Dhaka-6).

In reply to another starred question from Awami League MP Israfil Alam (Naogaon-6), the minister said some Bangladeshi pilgrims went to Saudi Arabia with hajj visas but did not return after the hajj, which has tarnished the country’s image.
