No final report yet on Sagar-Runi murder: Asaduzzaman Khan
11 February 2015, Nirapad News: State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan on Wednesday said the government is yet to have any conclusive information about Sagar-Runi murder and the agencies investigating the case are taking their time to come up with a fair probe.
“I’m yet to receive any conclusive information from the investigation. Various agencies are working on it. The investigation agencies have not yet come up with any accurate final report. They’re taking their time for accurate investigation,” he said this while talking to a delegation of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) at the Secretariat.
The BFUJ delegation, led by its president Altaf Mahmud, also submitted a memorandum to the minister demanding quick arrest of the killers of Sagar-Runi.
Asked to explain the reasons behind the delay in the investigation, Asaduzzaman alluded to the failure of the search operation for the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, and said sometimes it takes time to collect some information.
Though three years have passed since the incident took place, the agencies concerned are continuing with their efforts in this connection, he added.
Meanwhile, Assistant Director (investigation) of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), ASP Wares Ali Miea, also the investigation officer of the case, recently told the press that the US Lab after scrutinising the DNA sample have confirmed the presence of two men at their multistoried apartment during the gruesome murder.
DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is a molecule that encodes the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms and many viruses.
On February 11, 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were found dead at their rented apartment in the city’s West Razabazar area. Sagar had suffered 28 stab wounds while Runi five before they breathed for the last.
