No long route bus on highways after 9pm
10 February 2015, Nirapad News: Transport owners have agreed not to ply buses on highways after 9 pm until further notice during the ongoing BNP-led 20-party’s nonstop blockade across the country, causing damage to hundreds of vehicles.
However, goods-laden trucks and covered vans will continue to ply the highway at night.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Home Ministry on Monday evening with leaders of transport owners and workers association. State Minister for Home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal presided over the meeting.
Several vehicles were torched on the country’s highways, after nightfall over the course of the BNP-led 20 party alliance’s countrywide blockade since January 6.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, the junior home minister said though the transport owners earlier differed with government request earlier not to ply long route bus after 9:00 pm, but this time came around to the suggestion.
Asaduzzaman said miscreants set off petrol bombs at different points, including Gaibandha, Chittagong and Barisal. The passenger night coaches will start plying round the clock again after security will be ensured in those points, he added.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Malik samity secretary general Khandker Anyetullah said the road communications system have been improving gradually. But problems still remained at some points of North Bengal and Chittagong, he added.
