Observance of Rokeya Day begins tomorrow at Pairaband
08 December 2015, Nirapad News: Three-day observance of Rokeya Day-2015, the 135th birth and 83rd death anniversaries of the pioneer of women renaissance in the sub-continent, begins at her birthplace Pairaband village here from tomorrow (Wednesday).
The district administration in association with Mithapukur upazila administration has chalked out elaborate programmes, including daily discussions, to observe the day in the village under Mithapukur upazila befittingly.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Kazi Hassan Ahmed will inaugurate the observance through placing wreaths at Begum Rokeya Smriti Stambha there at 9am on Wednesday.
The first day observance programmes also include milad mahfil and spontaneous blood donation and blood group tests and debate (parliamentary)competition in Pairaband village.
Besides, a three-day traditional `Rokeya Fair’ will be inaugurated in the afternoon there followed by an open discussion on Begum Rokeya and a colourful cultural function.
High officials, academicians, educationists, women and human rights activists, literary personalities, Rokeya Researchers, professionals, public representatives and political leaders will take part in the daily discussions.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Kazi Hassan Ahmed will attend the discussion on the first day as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar in the chair.
Administrator of Zila Parishad and Acting President of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Assistant Secretary of the International Affairs central sub-committee on of AL Rashek Rahman and Mithapukur upazila Chairman Zakir Hossain Sarker will address as special guests.
Assistant Professor of the Department of Women & Gender Studies of Begum Rokeya University Humayun Kabir will present keynote essay on ‘Human Rights in Begum Rokeya’s Writings.’
Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Salahuddin will deliver welcome speech while Principal of Khandker Abdul Karim Mian College AKH Fakhrul Anam Benzu will take part as main discussant.
On December 10, competitions on drawing for students of class one to ten in three categories, recitation of poems for students of class six to ten and essay writing for students of class nine and ten, screening of documentary films and cultural function will be organised.
Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi will attend the discussion on the second day as chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Tanima Tasmin in the chair.
Police Super Abdur Razzaque and Deputy Director (Local Government) Mrs. Sultana Parveen will address the discussion as special guests.
Rangpur Divisional Chief of Bangladesh National Women lawyers’ Association (BNWLA) Advocate Kohinoor Begum will present keynote essay on ‘Begum Rokeya, Women Rights in Bangladesh and Prevailing Challenges.’
On the concluding day on Friday, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht will attend the discussion and prize giving ceremony as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar in the chair.
Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Humayun Kabir will
attend the ceremony as special guest.
Professor of the Department of Bengali of Begum Rokeya University Dr Sharifa Salwa Dina will deliver keynote paper on ‘Relevance of Begum Rokeya in the Present Context.’
Assistant Professor of Kawnia Degree College Dr Swasswato Bhattacharya will take part as main discussant on the concluding day discussion to be flowed by distribution of prizes and medals among winners of different competitions and a cultural function.
