One held with 118 rare tortoises, Phensidyl in Jessore

10 February 2016, Nirapad News: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a man along with 118 tortoises of rare species and 300 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Churamankathi area in Sadar upazila of Jessore district on Tuesday night.

Rab-6 Jessore commanding officer Major Abdullah Al Mehedi said being tipped-off that some rare species of tortoises were being smuggled into the country from India, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a three-wheeler (Nasimon) at about 9:00pm.

Rab members arrested Jahangir Hossain, son of late Abdul Gafur of South Burujbagan area in Sharsha upazila of Jessore, while other smugglers and the vehicle driver managed to flee.

Later, they recovered 118 tortoises of rare species and 300 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup after searching the vehicle.

A case was filed in this regard.
