One to die for killing wife in Barisal
15 Septembar 2015, Nirapad News: A court today sentenced one person to death for killing his wife throwing her into the river Meghna in 2007.
Court sources said the convict was also fined Taka 50,000.
Acting Additional District and Sessions Judge M Adib Ali pronounced the verdict.
The convict is Sohrab Akhon, 40, son of Lal Miah, resident of Tayka village under Muladi upazila in Barisal district.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that Sohrab threw her pregnant wife Mele into the Meghna from a launch when they were returning Barisal from Dhaka on October 22, 2007. Mele drowned in the river.
After the incident, victim’s sister Mini Begum filed a murder case with Muladi Thana against three persons.
Police after investigation submitted charge-sheet with the court implicating Sohrab in the killing.
Later, the judge examining witnesses and relevant evidences announced the judgment in presence of Sohrab.
