Over 3 lakh children to be fed Vitamin A capsule on November 14
11 November 2015, Nirapad News: Health Department will hold the National vitamin A plus campaign on November 14 to feed 3,19,052 children vitamin A capsule in the district.
Deputy Civil Surgeon, Dr Parikshit Kumar Parh, at an orientation programme for local newsmen at the conference room of the Administrative building of 250-bed Jamalpur General Hospital today spoke about various preparations to mark the campaign.
He said each of the 33,754 children aged from 6 months to 11 months will be administered a one lakh IU (International Unit) blue-colour vitamin A capsule while each of the 2,85,298 children aged from 12 months to 59 months will be fed a two lakh IU red-colour vitamin A capsule on the day in the district.
A total of 1,782 centers have been set up in the district to make the campaign a success. Out of the centers, 1,689 are permanent centers, 67 additional centers and 26 are mobile centers.
Deputy Civil Surgeon said Vitamin A is one of the most important micronutrients for child survival, growth and vision. Health Department launches Vitamin A plus campaign two times in a year. This year the first Vitamin A plus campaign was held on April 25 in the district, he added.
Health Education Officer, Badrul Alam, District Nutrition Support Officer, UNICEF, Md Shah Alam and District Coordinator, Micronutrient Initiative, Jamalpur and Sherpur, Mahfuza Begum Ruma also spoke at the orientation programme.
Journalists of various media and members of health department were present.
