Paralegals urged to assist Char people
29 November 2015, Nirapad News: Speakers at a function urged the paralegals to assist the Char people in a bid to have access them to the legal support in a more efficient way to ensure good governance in the society.
They said it while addressing a concluding ceremony of 7-day long basic training for the paralegals at the training centre of Friendship, a reputed NGO, at Madnerpara area under Fulchhari upazila in the district on Saturday afternoon.
Friendship organized the ceremony under its Good Governance Project funded by Friendship International Luxembourg and Eriks Development Partner, Sweden.
Advocate Jibanananda Joynta, Advocate Moniruzzaman and Advocate Taposhi Rabeya, who conducted the training sessions on the specific issues for the participants as resource persons, addressed the function, among others.
The major objective of that training was to develop skill of community level paralegal personnels who could assist to create a bridge between the legal institutions in main land and hard to reach char people, said team leader Ahmed Toufiqur Rahman.
Creating much awareness among the remote char people by the paralegals aimed at reducing different social stigmas side by side with ensuring good governance in the chars is another objective of the training, he also said.
Manager of the project Abu Muhammad Shihab said Friendship has been working for long for the char people with holistic approach and it always believed in innovation and creativity.
A total of 23 paralegals of Gaibandha and Kurigram districts took part in the training that was launched on November 21, said project officer Nazmul Hossain.
