‘Pay Disparity’ University teachers give ultimatum till March 29
12 March 2016, Nirapad News: The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Associations (FBUTA) on Saturday gave a fresh ultimatum to the government for the fourth time till March 29 to resolve the ‘pay disparity’ in the eight national pay scale.
Federation secretary general Prof ASM Maksud Kamal announced the ultimatum at a briefing after holding a general
meeting with the FBUTA members at the Dhaka University Club on Saturday.
He said they are hopeful that their demands will be met through a meeting with FBUTA and the cabinet division sub-
committee of the government scheduled to be held on March 24.
Maksud Kamal also said “We have come to the decision after meeting with FBUTA leaders”.
‘If the meeting produces no result, then we will go for actions by holding general meeting with the leaders of the
federation”, he added.
Maksud also said, “We think we are moving towards an honorable solution”.
Teachers of public universities issued an ultimatum to the government on March 5 for the third time, February 23
for second time demanding reinstatement of their selection grade and time scale.
Earlier on January 19, the teachers postponed their strike till February 3 following assurance from the prime
minister after a nine-day work abstention at all the 37 public universities.
The public university teachers have been protesting against the eighth national pay scale since May 2015. The
teachers also sought retention of selection grades and time scale.
