Peru calls elections for April 2016
14 November 2015, Nirapad News: President Ollanta Humala on Friday called elections for April 10 next year, when Peruvians will elect his successor, a new vice president and congress seats.
So far the field of presidential hopefuls includes Keiko Fujimori,
daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, who served from 1990 to 2000, and former president Alan Garcia.
Humala’s term ends in late July next year and he cannot run for a successive term under the constitution.
If no candidate wins more than 50 percent of the votes in the presidential election, the top two finishers face each other in a runoff.
The legislative election is held in a single round.
Executive and legislative terms in office last five years in Peru.
