The driver was burnt in the petrol-bomb assault that occurred on Belpukur Bridge on Thursday night, Puthia police Inspector Hafizur Rahman said.
The deceased, Pintu Rahman, 27, was from the district’s Charghat Upazila. Injured driver ‘Mithun'(35) was admitted to Puthia Health Complex.
Inspector Rahman said the truck was heading to Chittagong from Chapainawabganj with plums during the attack around 8:30pm.
Pintu’s head burned in the fire after the miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on the truck when it reached near the bridge. Pintu jumped out of the truck immediately and was crushed under its wheels and his entire body caught fire and was charred, the inspector said.
Driver Mithun stopped the truck and doused the fire on it with the help of locals, he said. The body was sent to the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital morgue, he added.
