22 July 2016, Nirapad News: Describing people’s power as the ultimate strength, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday vowed to protect the country from the evil forces involved in terrorism and militancy.

“Those who are dreaming of frustrating the pace of development through unleashing militancy won’t be successful, Insha Allah, as the power of the people is the ultimate strength,” she said.

The premier came up with the assertion while talking to the officials of Benapole Land Port, customs officials, elected representatives and officials of local administration and law enforcement agencies through videoconferencing after inaugurating the integrated check post (ICP) at Benapole-Petrapole point of India-Bangladesh border.

Sheikh Hasina joined the videoconferencing from her official Ganobhaban residence here while Narendra Modi joined it from his New Delhi Office. Besides, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee joined the videoconferencing from her Kolkata office. The prime minister also vowed to free the country and nation from the hands of the evil forces by eliminating terrorism and militancy.

“As the people have now awakened and they are united against terrorism and militancy, it’s my firm belief that we would be able free the country and nation from the hands of evil forces,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina also expressed her firm determination to continue the pace of ongoing development in the country. “We must continue the pace of socioeconomic uplift at any cost,” she said.

The premier said when Bangladesh is marching towards development and prosperity and has been recognized as a role model of uplift, ill efforts are being made to impede this advancement through unleashing terrorism and militancy.

“Why would we allow this evil design … we must contain it,” she said, urging all to give attention to this end.

In this connection, the premier said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday renewed India’s unflinching support to Bangladesh strides to fight terrorism.

“There would be cooperation that two countries would never give shelter to any terrorist, and no terrorist would be allowed to take shelter in the other country after committing crimes in their own country,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina sought cooperation of all for further developing the country economically as well as taking the country to a more dignified position in the world community.

Describing modernisation of Benapole Land Port and inauguration of ICP at Petrapole as a historic moment, she directed concerned authorities to run Benapole Port properly to strengthen regional trade and commerce in the greater interest of the country.

The Prime Minister mentioned her government’s plan to further modernize Benapole Land Port and said, a large capacity truck terminal, parking place, shipment facilities and other infrastructures will be set up there in future.

Besides, the most modern automation system with sophisticated technology will also be set up there to ensure hassle-free transportation of goods and businessmen, she said.

About reinstating rail communication with India through Benapole that has been stopped since 1965, she said steps will be taken in this regard after discussion with the government of India.
