BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office was locked by police for four days and finally opened today

8 January 2015, Nirapad News : Police unlocked the main gate of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office today after keeping it locked for four days. Police removed the lock from the gate after unlocking it around 11:50am. However, police and riot vans are still parked in front of the office. Meanwhile, another gate on the backside of the premises still remained locked till filing this report.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police authority said security was beefed up for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia marking the January 5 program. Journalists were also not allowed to enter the office premises.

Police barred Khaleda leaving the office when she wanted to return home by her car at 12pm on Saturday. BNP was determined to hold the pre-scheduled January 5 rally in the capital to observe what the party said “Democracy Killing Day”. Holding rally and meeting were banned in the capital for an indefinite period from 5:00pm on Sunday.

Khaleda Zia made her last-ditch effort to come out Monday afternoon by a car, but law enforcers locked all the gates. Cops also used pepper spray to disperse the party leaders and activists waiting inside the gate that day. Several journalists were injured in the police action there.

Protesting her confinement, Khaleda called an indefinite, countrywide blockade starting Tuesday.
She wanted to go to the party’s central office at Nayapaltan, where leaders and activists were asked to gather for holding a rally on Monday to denounce the January 5 one-sided parliamentary election.
