President seeks UN steps for more climate aid from developed nations
07 Septembar 2015, Nirapad News: President Abdul Hamid on Monday urged the United Nations (UN) to take steps to ensure more contributions of the developed countries to the Climate Change Fund.
The President made this call when UN resident coordinator and Resident Representative of UNDP Robert Watkins made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, Abdul Hamid said although the developed countries are responsible for climate change, the least developed countries, including Bangladesh, are facing adverse impact of climate change. But the participation of the developed countries in the climate change fund is not satisfactory, President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told UNB.
The President also said that the migration problem will become worse if the impact of climate change continues.
Robert Watkins praised the role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in the UN saying that they are doing working with efficiency.
He also praised Bangladesh’s role in international forum over climate change and other issues.
Secretaries concerned to the President’s Office were present.
