President slams logging trees to enforce political programs

18 August 2015, Nirapad News: President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday urged all to remain alert against those who cut down trees in the name of political programs for their dirty political gains.

“Some people indiscriminately cut down trees in the name of political programs. Such heinous activities can’t be accepted under any circumstances for any unhealthy political gain. So, people have to be alert against them,” he said.

The President said this while addressing a programme on the Bangabhaban premises marking a national tree plantation campaign and tree fair-2015.

On the occasion, Hamid planted a Daruchini (Cinnamon) sapling on the Bangabhaban premises.

Mentioning that the problems caused by climate change a severe threat to all the countries both rich and poor, he said, “Global concerted efforts need to be taken in this regard. People have to be informed about the problems caused by climate change and responsibilities in this regard.”

The President urged all, irrespective of religion, caste and profession, to build greenflies through tree plantation in rural and urban areas to face the climate change.

There is no alternative to industrialisation for employment and socio-economic development, the President said adding that the environmental pollution issue has to be addressed first while setting up factories.

Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossanin Manju and Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, among others, spoke on the occasion.
