President Abdul Hamid, in his message, said proper measurement and production of quality goods play an important role in expansion of trade and commerce. He said the theme of this year’s Metrological Day has been time-befitting and appropriate.

Observance of the day will enhance public awareness about importance of measurement science, the President hoped.

Electricity and measurement are very important for sustainable development and facing the bad effects of global climate change, he said and hoped that the people would be able to attain desired progress by using electricity proportionately and following international measurement.

Abdul Hamid further hoped that Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institute (BSTI) would play an appropriate role in implementation of all programmes undertaken by the government for attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said light science is the most important discipline in the twenty-first century.

Massive changes have taken place in medical science and agriculture science using modern light technology, she said, adding that optical technology made epoch-making changes in information and communication technology sector.

The Prime Minister hoped that BSTI will ensure proper use of measurement in all sectors and apply modern and technical knowledge to face global challenges.
