Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend G-7 outreach meeting
14 May 2016, Nirapad News: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the Group of Seven (G-7) outreach meeting, a gathering of heads of state and government of non-G7 countries and chairpersons of international organisations, at the invitation of the government of Japan, the host country.
Sources said a high-powered delegation comprising foreign minister, foreign secretary, principal secretary and economic relations division secretary will accompany the PM during the two-day event.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs sources said during the visit, the Bangladesh Prime Minister is likely to highlight the country’s achievement on women’s progress, sustainable development goal, health and partnership for quality infrastructure.
She is also likely to hold meeting with Japanese Minister Shinzo Abe. Besides, she will interact with Japanese businessmen and give Japanese media NHK an interview, sources added.
“The invitation has opened up the country’s importance to the global leaders who want to listen to Bangladesh’s achievement in national and international development context,” said a senior official preferring not to be named.
The G-7 Ise-Shima summit to be held on May 25-27 is the first summit in Asia in eight years. The G-7 outreach meeting is an extended meeting of the summit.
