The High Court (HC) today said no teacher of any private schools, colleges, madrasas in the country can be kept suspended for more than six months.

A HC division bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after holding a hearing on a writ filed in this regard.

Advocate Md Humayun Kabir moved the plea before the court, while Deputy Attorney General Bipul Baghmar represented the state.

According to the case documents, assistant teacher Md Badshah Miah of Baharbagh Secondary School in Magura was suspended in 2007 on the allegation of taking excess wages. But as the matter remained pending for years, Badshah Miah filed the writ with the High Court in 2017.

The HC after hearing the plea had issued a rule asking why a time limit should not be set on suspensions for teachers at private educational institutions. The court today came up with the order, disposing of the matter.
