Private varsities asked for report by September 30

15 August 2015, Nirapad News: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid asked the authorities of private universities to submit progress report by September 30 regarding their shifting to own campuses.

The minister came up with instruction while exchanging views with private university authorities at University Grants Commission (UGC) in city on Thursday.

He said after receiving the reports, action would be taken against the universities, which will not shift to their own campus.

It will be easy to take action against the universities, which have failed to fulfill the conditions, he added.

According to the minister, a total of 50 private universities are on process to shift their academic activities to own campus.

In response to the private university authorities’ demands in opposing VAT on them, the minister assured that he will talk to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith about the matter.

UGC members, vice-chancellors of different universities and representatives of four boards also addressed the meeting, with UGC chairman Abdul Mannan in the chair.
