The probe body, formed by the Home Ministry over the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan in Teknaf, submitted its report to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Monday.

Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, head of the probe body and Chattogram Additional Division Commissioner (development), submitted the probe report.

“A four-member probe body was formed to investigate the murder of Major (retd) Sinha and the committee has been asked to submit its report with recommendations after reviewing the overall situation and unearth the reason behind the murder,” said Home Minister Asaduzzaman.

Asked about the content of the report, the minister said, “I didn’t see it yet and our secretaries will go through it, review it and then take steps.”

“Police are investigating the incident as per a court order and that’s why we can’t reveal anything. We’ll inform the court about it and the court can take it from us officially if they want. We don’t know about it and it’s the jurisdiction of the court. The next steps will be taken later against those responsible for the murder as per the report.”

Asked about creating tension between the two forces through spreading rumours, the minister said, “We don’t find anything which can create any tension between the two groups. We think an excellent environment exists between the two forces as the chiefs of the police and army personnel visited Cox’s Bazar and they were seen briefing there. Both groups are working together.”

Terming the murder of Sinha as unfortunate, Asaduzzaman, said, “We don’t want the recurrence of such an incident as how and why it took place was mentioned in the probe report.”

The probe body was formed on August 3 and was initially scheduled to submit its report within seven working days, but it got its timeline extended several times.

The probe body earlier interrogated prime accused former officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das on Wednesday.

Major (retd) Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31.

Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on August 5.
