Professor Dr. Maqsudul Alam passes away
21 December 2014, Nirapad News : Professor of the University of Hawaii, Dr. Maqsudul Alam, noteworthy scientist and inventor of genome sequence of jute, died of prolonged illness at Queens Medical Center in Hawaii yesterday. He was 60. Dr Alam left behind his wife, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. He will be buried at a local graveyard in Hawaii on Monday.
President, Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock at his death. They expressed their condolences in separate messages today. President Hamid in his message recalled Maqsudul’s contribution in the field of agriculture science saying his death is an irreparable loss to the nation. In another message, Sheikh Hasina said Maqdusul’s premature death is a great loss for Bangladesh as well as in the arena of scientific studies and research particularly on crops diversification. Abdul Hamid and Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
