Rajshahi poura polls progress peacefully
30 December 2015, Nirapad News: Voting at polling centres in 13 Municipalities in Rajshahi district is progressing peacefully amid tight security.
Despite severe cold, long queues of voters including women and youths were seen outside the polling stations to exercise their franchise at many polling stations.
District election office sources said the voters are casting their votes in a peaceful atmosphere and they did not receive news of any untoward incident till filling of this report at 1.30 am today.
Apart from police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel were seen patrolling in and around important polling centres.
Shortly after casting votes at their respective municipalities, Awami League nominated Mayor candidate for Charghat, sitting mayor Nargish Akter and BNP Nominated candidate for Naohata Mokbul Hossain expressed their hope over their and said that they would accept the result whatever it may be.
Subhash Chandra Sarker, regional election officer of Rajshahi region, told that voting has started in Rajshahi and is also progressing peacefully and they did not receive news of any untoward incident.
A total of 51 mayoral candidates, 582 ward councilors including 134 female (reserved) councilors are now in the race for 13 municipalities under Rajshahi district. A total of 2,47,207 voters including 1,23,500 females are scheduled to cast their votes in the local body election.
