Rangpur to have adequate civic services: Mayor Jhantu
22 December 2015, Nirapad News: Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has pledged for ensuring adequate civic services and facilities in turning Rangpur into a modern, beautiful and eco-friendly city.
Jhantu, also a valiant freedom fighter, said this while inaugurating construction works of four drainage systems by unveiling plaque at a ceremony arranged on Monday afternoon at Shapla Chattar area in the city as the chief guest.
The city corporation has been implementing construction works of the drainage systems under the City Governance Project at about Taka 11 crore with financial assistance of the Government of Bangladesh and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) has been extending assistance to RCC in implementing construction works of the four drainage systems at different areas under Ward Nos-26, 27 and 30 of the city as the Executing Agency.
Under the package, construction of the 550-metre long drainage systems on both sides of the road from Shapla Chattar and Link Station, 350-metre long drainage systems from Dakhiganj Mosque to Shyamasundari Canal Bridge, 1,020-metre long from Dakhiganj Mosque to Shyamasundari Canal Bridge via Tinmatha and 775-metre long drainage systems from Mandalpara Bridge to GL Roy Road are being constructed in the city.
City Councilors Mahbubar Rahman Manju, Akram Hossain, MA Razzaque Mandal and Jahangir Alam Tota, Female City Councilor Farida Kalam, Executive Engineer of RCC Azam Ali, attended the ceremony as the special guests.
After inaugurating the construction works, the City Mayor said construction works of the drainage systems, roads, culverts, recreation places, offices, power and water supply systems, industries are being properly implemented in the city as per a master plan.
He cautioned all concerned for taking stern actions if any irregularities were found while conducting the infrastructural development works and directed for ensuring quality works with maximum transparency and accountability.
Jhantu also sought cooperation of the citizens in turning Rangpur into an international standard modern, beautiful and traffic jam-free city with eye-catching looks all-around ensuring adequate civic services, facilities and amenities.
