Razzak ‘razakar’ being produced before ICT Wednesday
20 May 2015, Nirapad News: Police will produce Abdur Razzak, ‘razakar of Habiganj’, before the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT) on Wednesday in a case related to his alleged ‘crimes against humanity’ committed during the War of Independence in 1971.
District’s Baniachong Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Nirmelindu Chakrabarty disclosed the matter at a press briefing around 1:15 am on Tuesday.
Earlier in the morning, acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided Atangiri hill area in Sadar Upazila of Moulvibazar around 9:00am and arrested Abdur Razzak.
His arrest came some two days after the tribunal issued a warrant of arrest on Sunday.
Abdur Razzak, 60, son of late Tajoi Ullah, hailed from Hussenpur village of Baniachong Upazila of Habiganj district, was accused of four different charges.
On Sunday, tribunal prosecutors Sultan Mahmud Simon and Tapos Kanti Baul submitted formal charges against three alleged razakars- Mahibir Rahman Boro Mia, MojiburRahman Angur Mia, and Abdur Razzak– bringing four charges of crimes against humanity.
Following the submission, the tribunal issued an arrest warrant against Abdur Razzak. The four charges are as follows;
The accused raided Baniachong Upazila on November 11 2015, killed freedom fighter Akal Ali and Rajab Ali, and disappeared bodies.
The accused assisted by Pakistani occupation forces, attacked the house of deputy-chief of Liberation War late Major General M A Rab, burnt the house, looted gold and money there.
Accompanied by Pakistani army, the alleged war criminal raped the wife of Manjar Ali, and the younger sister of Allat Mian in Khagaura area under Baniachong Upazila. Later, Allat Mian’s sister killed herself by drinking poison.
They picked up Ansar Ali on Bhadra month of Bengali calendar, took him to a razakar camp and tortured him, leading Anasar Ali to become a crippled forever.
