Record 841 mandaps to celebrate Durga Puja in Rangpur

12 October 2015, Nirapad News: An all-time record number of 841 mandaps are being erected to celebrate the greatest religious festival of Hindu community Durga Puja with huge enthusiasm amid tight security measures in the district this year. The total number of erected Durga Puja mandaps was 776 last year in all eight upazilas in the district.

The information was disclosed at a meeting held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city on Sunday afternoon with Deputy Commissioner Md. Rahat Anwar in the chair.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Priyosindhu Talukder, Additional Superintendent of Police (District Special Branch) Abdullah Al Farooque, Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kabir, all eight Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs), President of the district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick, officials of district administration and law enforcement agencies, Presidents and General Secretaries of upazila units of BPUP addressed the meeting.

Officials of different government departments and law enforcement agencies, leaders of the district and upazila units of BPUP, political leaders, civil society members, socio-cultural activists and local elite participated in the meeting.

The meeting decided to deploy adequate number of police, RAB and Ansar-VDP members to ensure full proof security and providing uninterrupted supply of electricity to the puja mandaps for peaceful celebrations of the Durga Puja festivity.

According to official sources, necessary steps have been taken for peaceful celebration of Durga Puja and the mandap authorities have also put maximum efforts to celebrate the festivity amid huge enthusiasm and religious fervour.

The Power Devotement Board and Rural Electrification Board authorities have taken steps to provide uninterrupted power supply to the puja mandaps to enable the Hindu devotees in offering prayers, puja, archanas, kirtons and other rituals smoothly.

Talking to BSS, President of district unit of BPUP and Trustee of th Hindu Kallyan Trust Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick expressed satisfaction over the preparations and steps taken by the government for peaceful celebrations of Durga Puja.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Faridul Haque told BSS today that the process of allocation of special VGF rice by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has been progressing for distribution among the puja mandaps in the district.

Soon after getting the allocation within a couple of days, distribution of the special VGF rice among the puja mandap authorities will be completed by October 17 to assist the Hindu community people celebrate the Durga Puja festival in the district, he added.
