‘Robber’ killed in Narsingdi ‘gunfight’ with detectives

09 February 2016, Nirapad News: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Panchdona-Danga Road area of Sadar upazila on Tuesday.

Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Narsingdi DB police, said acting on secret information that a gang of robbers
was taking preparation to commit robbery, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 3:00 am.

Sensing the presence of the DB police, the robbers opened fire towards them and the law enforcers also retaliated
with firing, triggering a gunfight.

During the gunfight, Arif Miah,26, son of late Halim of Birampur village in Madhabdi municipality area, was injured
while others fled the scene.

Arif was rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Later, Arif succumbed to his injures at DMCH around 9:00 am. Sub-inspector Rupan Kumar Sarkar and two constables Uzzal Biswas and Nazrul Islam were injured in the gunfight.

They were given first aid at Narshingdi Sadar Hospital. Police recovered a pistol and two rounds of bullet from the spot.
