‘Rokeya first realised essence of female education’

14 March 2016, Nirapad News: Pioneer of women renaissance in the sub-continent Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain realised essence of female education for the first time to ensure socioeconomic and political empowerment of the womenfolk.

Discussants made the observations at a views-sharing meeting titled ‘Deeds of Rokeya: Importance of Female Education and Women Empowerment’ held at village Pairaband, birthplace of Rokeya, under Mithapukur upazila here on Sunday afternoon.

Voluntary organisation ‘Service of Social and Human Development (SSD)’ organised the event to discuss about life and deeds of Rokeya for inspiring rural women in science and information technology-based modern education for women empowerment.

More than 100 women of village Pairaband participated in the meeting presided over by Chairman of SDD Golam Mostafa Suman.

Executive Director of SSD Mohammad Tahammel Hossain delivered the keynote presentation narrating utter essence of female education for women empowerment in the light of the vision, philosophy, ideals, thoughts and conscience of Rokeya.

Mithapukur Upazila Children Affairs Officer M N Wahed Suman attended the occasion as the chief guest.

Director (Information & Technology) of SSD Habibur Rahman, its Director (Administration) Biplob Rahman, Director (Coordination) Shamim Akhter and Director (Human Resources) Limon Mahmud, addressed among others.

The speakers said great woman Rokeya for the first time pioneered female education penetrating the social curses, superstitions and barriers in the then conservative colonial society for advancement and empowerment of the womenfolk.

Terming Begum Rokeya as a great social philosopher and human rights
activist, they said her ideals still show the right path and direction to the womenfolk as well as modern society, generations, politicians and policy-makers.

The chief guest said Rokeya was the first woman in this region to realise that without ensuring education and equal rights of the womenfolk, a society cannot achieve its desired sustainable development and civilised status.

“The outstanding contributions of Rokeya have still been strongly influencing the politicians and policy-makers to ensure female education, empowerment and establishing equal rights leading to the present stage of women advancement,” he said.
