An RT-PCR lab has been set up at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital to facilitate the workers intending to go abroad with overseas jobs with COVID-19 test facility.

Although the work of setting up the lab was completed on Saturday night, it is learned that the coronavirus test of the passengers has not started yet. Coronavirus test results can be obtained in a short time through this lab.

The airport’s Executive Director Group Captain Touhid-ul Ahsa told the media that the work of setting up the lab was completed on Saturday.

“The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and Health Services Division have formed two technical committees, they are watching the whole process. As a result, the people of the committee will be able to say when the sample collection will start in the lab,” he added.

Due to lack of RT-PCR lab at the airport, many countries were not allowing expatriates to enter their country from Bangladesh.

Many countries have imposed the condition of boarding the plane after checking the coronavirus from the airport. Many expatriates are stranded in the country as there is no such facility at any airport in Bangladesh. As a result, on the one hand, the expatriates were worried their job abroad and on the other hand the country was being deprived of the possibility of remittance income.

Emphasizing these issues, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the concerned parties to set up RT-PCR Labs soon.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment approved seven private companies to set up RT-PCR labs for coronavirus testing at Shahjalal International Airport.
