Samuels, Kulasekara stars of Comilla’s emphatic victory in BPL
28 November 2015, Nirapad News: A fierce bowling spell by Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Kulasekara followed by a match-winning knock by Marlon Samuels helped Comilla Victorians to record an overwhelming nine-wicket victory over Rangpur Riders in their 4th match of Bangladesh Premier league held on Friday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.
Chasing a paltry winning target of 83 runs set by Rangpur Riders, Comilla Victorians hardly had to sweat as they easily reached home making 84 runs in 11.5 overs with nine wickets in hand.
After the departure of opener Mahmudul Hasan for 11 runs, Comilla Victorians never look backed during the chase as first down Marlon Samuels and another opener Imrul Kayes guided Comilla Victorian towards the victory at ease to remain unbeaten on 42 and 24 runs respectively.
The Caribbean batsman Samuels cracked eight boundaries and one over boundary during his 24-ball stay on the crease while Imrul Kayes smashed 24-run off 42-ball laced with two boundaries and a single over boundary.
Arafat Sunny took one wicket conceding 13 runs.
Earlier, early strikes from Nuwan Kulasekara and Sunil Narine of Comilla Victorians rocked Rangpur Riders innings as they cheaply dismissed at a paltry total of 82 from their allotted 20 overs, after they were forced to bat first.
Only Mohammad Mithun (28) and Saqlain Sajib (11) able to reach the double figure as Rangpur Riders faced series batting debacle losing wickets in regular interval in the face of tight bowling attacks by the Comilla Victorians bowlers, especially Kulasekara, who caused the major damage for Rangpur picking up four wickets conceding 12 runs.
Besides, Abu Haider bagged two wickets giving away 15 runs.
