Schools, college students to be vaccinated soon: Health Minister

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said students of schools and colleges will be vaccinated with Pfizer and Moderna vaccines soon.

“I have visited Geneva four days ago. I talked to the head of the World Health Organization about vaccinating students. They have approved Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for school-college students aged 12 to 18 years to prevent infection,” said the minister at a press conference on Covid-19 vaccine and contemporary issues held at Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons(BCPS) in Dhaka on Sunday.

Zahid Maleque said, “We have a stock of 60 lakh Pfizer vaccines now which will be be given to 30 lakh students. Another 70 lakh vaccines will come this month. Then there will be no shortage of vaccine in the vaccination programme for students.”

He further said, “It will be possible to vaccinate 8 crore people in the country between December and January. We have received 7.2 crore vaccine doses so far. Of these, 3.6 crore people have been vaccinated with the first dose and 1.79 lakh people have been vaccinated with the second dose.”

“Now there are 1.8 crore doses of vaccine in hand. Another 5.2 crore people have registered through Surokkha app.”
