Second phase of Bishwa Ijtema moves into 2nd day
21 January 2017, Nirapad News: The second phase of Bishwa Ijtema moved into the second day today (Saturday) in Tongi area on the outskirts of the capital.
Maulana Jamshed Ali of India delivered sermons after Fazr prayers while Maulana Abdul Matin of Bangladesh translated those into Bengali.
The second phase of the three-day Ijtema began on the bank of the Turag River after Fazr prayers on Friday.
Thousands of Muslim devotees, both from home and abroad, have gathered at the congregation venue and are taking part in prayers and discussions.
The congregation, also called the World Muslims’ Congregation, will end tomorrow (Sunday) with the Akheri Munajat (concluding prayers).
Meanwhile, police arrested some 152 Rohingyas from in and around the Ijtema ground, said superintendent of police Harun ur Rashid.
They will be sent back to their country through legal process, the SP added.
A devotee died at the Biswa Ijtema ground early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Joynal Abedin, 70, a resident of Kishoreganj district. Sources said Joynal died in the dead of night due to old age complications.
Some 1,527 foreign devotees from several countries, including South Africa, Russia, the USA, Italy, Kenya, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Singapore, Sweden, France, Australia, Senegal, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, China and Mali reached in the Ijtema ground on the first day of the second phase Ijtema.
People from 16 districts of the country are attending the second phase Biswa Ijtema.
The first phase of Biswa Ijtema was held at the same venue on January 13-15. Devotees from 16 districts attended the 1st phase of Ijtema.
Ijtema is being held in two phases from 2012 to ease accommodation problem.
Tight security measures have been taken for the event while several thousand personnel of different law enforcement agencies will remain deployed in Tongi.
