Shakib makes impressive start with ball in PSL
06 February 2016, Nirapad News: After two overs each from Karachi Kings captain Shoaib Malik — who opened the bowling, and the pace sensation Mohammad Amir, Bangladesh’s greatest export Shakib Al Hasan was brought into attack in the fifth over.
Shakib’s beginning of PSL was not quite as expected, as he was broomed away with a swagger for four by Cameron Delport in the very first delivery he bowled in the competition. However, the world number one took little time to regroup. After giving away a couple of singles, he picked up the prized wicket of Azhar Ali and bid the Pakistan ODI captain a warm goodbye!
Shakib was retained to bowl in the seventh over as well. But his second over was relatively an eventless one which saw neither any wicket nor any boundary but just four singles. But the surprise was waiting at the stands — minimum 20 to 25 spectators, wearing the jursey of Bangladesh National Cricket Team, chanting Shakib’s name!
Shakib can think himself unlucky for what happened in his third over, that hee bowled as the 13th of the innings. He conceded another six runs only in the over, but more importantly he created opportunities twice. First of them was a catch dropped inside the circle, and then a delivery wide outside the off-stump which should have been a touch-and-go chance for the wicketkeeper to stump the batsman Shaoib Maqsood. But heaven knows how the man behind the wickets missed it.
Nothing much happened in the last over of Shakib’s quota as well. He was for a boundary in the last ball before giving away five runs including a dot and a wide in first five balls that ensured the experienced all-rounder finished with impressive figures of 4-0-26-1.
