Shamim Osman wants Khaleda Zia’s punishment for using national flag
5 March 2015, Nirapad News: Ruling Awami League MP AKM Shamim Osman on Wednesday demanded Khaleda Zia’s ‘exemplary punishment’ for using the national flag.
During a discussion in Parliament Osman questioned the legality of BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s use of the national flag in different functions. Osman sought explanations from the government on the matter.
Osman said, “Foreign envoys went to her residence on Tuesday. We saw the national flag behind her on television.” “Under which warrant of precedence she is using the national flag? She can’t use it. I’m demanding punishment to her for disrespecting the national flag before foreigners,” he added.
Earlier, independent MP Rustam Ali Farazi demanded Cabinet Division explanations on the use of the national flag on the vehicle of Narayanganj Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy. Farazi sought ‘specific directions’ from the local government ministry, Cabinet Division and the prime minister on the issue.
“According to warrant of precedence, a city corporation mayor can’t use the national flag in his or her car,” he said. “There is a decision of the Cabinet Division on the matter. Moreover, there is Flag Rules of 1972,” he added.
