Sheikh Hasina places wreath to Suvra Mukherjee
19 August 2015, Nirapad News: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed floral wreaths at the coffin of Suvra Mukherje, wife of India President Pranab Mukherjee.
She went to 13, Talkatora Road, the residence of Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee to lay a wreath on the body.
The premier is scheduled to attend the funeral at Lodhi Road crematorium.
Earlier in the morning, the premier reached New Delhi to meet President Pranab Mukherjee and expressed her condolence for the demise of his wife Suvra Mukherjee.
A fight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the premier and her entourage, landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi around 7:15am.
Indian external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj welcomed her at the airport. Senior officials of Bangladesh High Commission to India, including high commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali were also present at that time.
The premier went to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official home of India President, in New Delhi from the airport and expressed her sympathy to him.
Earlier, a fight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the premier and her entourage, left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for New Delhi at 6:00am.
Some of cabinet members saw off her at the airport.
PM’s sister Sheikh Rehana, daughter Saima Wazed and foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali, principal secretary Abul Kalam Azad, press secretary Ehsanul Karim and special assistant Mahbubul Haque Shakil are accompanying her.
The premier will return Dhaka after the funeral around 6:00pm.
Earlier on Tuesday, President Abdul Hamid and PM Hasina mourned the death of India first lady.
Suvra Mukherjee passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 75.
