Show cause notice on Ekhlas Uddin Mollah
25 March 2015, Nirapad News: The Election Commission has issued show cause notices to Ekhlas Uddin Mollah, a mayor aspirant in Dhaka North City Corporation elections, for violating the electoral code of conduct.
The EC on Wednesday also sought explanations from four other councilor aspirants for committing the same offense, said Returning Officer Shah Alam.
Awami League leader Ekhlas Uddin Mollah, also the brother of incumbent lawmaker Elias Uddin Mollah, collected the nomination form on Tuesday, going against the party’s decision.
In the last week of February, PM Sheikh Hasina officially expressed her party’s backing for businessman and media personality Annisul Huq for Dhaka North City Corporation polls. She also warned the rebels of tough actions.
However, several other Awami League leaders including incumbent lawmakers also started making it clear that they too wish to be Dhaka’s mayor.
Just like the party-backed aspirants, they put up giant billboards all over the city, making themselves visible to the voters.
Until Tuesday, eight mayor aspirants collected nomination forms, 46 for reserved female ward councilor and 343 for ward councilor posts.
On March 18, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the election schedules for the three city corporations fixing vote for April 28.
According to the election schedule, the last date for the submission of nomination papers is March 29, while the nomination papers will be scrutinized on April 1 and 2, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 9.
