Quoting witnesses, police said the clash broke out when members of the sand-mining gang, equipped with firearms and sharp weapons, attacked the farmers as they tried to resist the gang from extracting topsoil from some farmlands in the area.

During the first attack by the sand-mining gang, more than 30 farmers, among them two bullet-hit, were injured.

As the enraged villages later equipped with locally made sharp weapons, swooped on the houses of some of the members of the sand-mining gang in the locality, 20 more people were injured.

The sand-mining gang has been illegally cutting the topsoil of the farmlands in Charhogla and Charkishoreganj areas of the union after they took Charhogla-1 area on lease for mining the sand.
