Speaker for upholding dignity of Independence
26 March 2016, Nirapad News: Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and Chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today urged all concerned to uphold the dignity of country’s Independence Day to build a hunger-free and poverty-free Bangladesh.
“We have to uphold the dignity of Independence Day to ensure country’s overall development,” she said while inaugurating a candle lighting programme title “Black Night to be the Light of Paths” organized by Grameen Phone at Manik Mian Avenue in the capital.
The speaker recalled the brutal attacks of Pakistani occupation forces on March 25 night terming its black night in the world history.
She said, “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence of Bangladesh through EPR wireless in the early hours of March 26 (the night following March 25) from his Dhanmondi-32 house.”
On this day in 1971, Bangabandhu also called upon the people to resist unitedly against the occupation forces,” she added.
State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Minister Tarana Halim, CEO of Grameen Phone and senior officials were also present on the occasion.
